A joint Lowland Deer Network Scotland – Scottish Land & Estates ‘Walk and Talk’ event will be held at Caddonfoot Hall, Clovenfords TD1 3LG, Yair Hill Forest and Torwoodlee and Buckholm Estates on Wednesday 8 June 2016
This information-sharing event will highlight issues relating to deer management in a low ground context – deer, forestry and woodland; deer management and the public; road traffic accidents, wildlife crime and deer, and other related topics.
Under the Wildlife & Natural Environment (Scotland) Act anyone with deer on their land should manage them ‘sustainably’ – this includes private and public landowners, local authorities, agencies, NGOs, farmers and developers. The Scottish Government is currently also reviewing the current system of deer management, both upland and lowland, to establish that the ‘voluntary principle’ is delivering what is required in terms of environment, economy and the public interest
This half-day event starts (09.30am) with a number of short indoor presentations on some of the main issues from the Lowland Deer Network (Richard Cooke), Scottish Natural Heritage (Anton Watson), Forestry Commission Scotland (Colin Edwards), Torwoodlee Estate (James Pringle) and Police Scotland (PC James Hood). This will be followed by site visits to Yair Hill Forest (Forestry Commission) and Torwoodlee to look at specific sites and aspects of interest.
The event is free. To register contact by Wednesday 1 June latest:
